Mai Duong

Policy Advisor, Tax, Climate, and Nature

Mai Duong is a policy advisor, tax, climate, and nature with the Economic Law and Policy Program. Her work focuses on the intersection of carbon pricing, climate finance, and the energy transition.

Prior to joining IISD, Mai worked as a carbon markets analyst for Veyt AS, where she specialized in Asia-Pacific carbon pricing. She led a team in publishing regular market reports and in designing supply-demand and price forecasts for China’s emissions trading scheme.

Mai was also a researcher at the Centre for EU-Asia Connectivity, Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany and the School of International Relations and Public Affairs, Fudan University, China. Her academic publications on EU-China emissions trading schemes and the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) have appeared in journals such as Asia Europe Journal and Climate Policy.  

Mai has a master’s degree from Ruhr-University Bochum, a postgraduate certificate in Law from the Judicial Academy, Vietnam, and a bachelor’s degree in law from Hanoi Law University.

Based in Berlin, Mai is pursuing a Ph.D. in political economy at Ruhr-University Bochum. She speaks Vietnamese, English, German, and Chinese.
